The Aluminum Ultimate 5th Wheel Connection is the lightest, strongest, most innovative 5th wheel hitch in the world! It weighs a mere 37 lbs, but still has a 24,000 lbs Gross Towing Weight Rating and 4,500 tongue weight capacity. Comes with a patented ball-funnel to make hookup even easier.
This hitch is designed to tow a fifth wheel trailer with your pickup bed mounted gooseneck ball. The lightweight "A" Frame elevates a 2-5/16" ball up to the height of a normal fifth wheel king pin. You then install the included adapter on your king pin and set the trailer on the ball like a gooseneck. The hitch pulls the trailer from the same position so you do not add any stress to the fifth wheel like gooseneck adapters.

Option to Add Safety Chains:
Although safety chains are not required for fifth-wheel connections, some states require safety chains for towing specifically on a ball. Some people may also feel more comfortable having this added safety measure, and they can easily be added to your truck.

It's the ultimate hitch a good option for a short bed truck?
These hitches work very well in short bed trucks. This hitch moves the pivot point back 5-1/2 inches from existing in bed ball connection. This typically provides more than enough clearance to make a 90 degree turn with most fifth wheels.
You can check your truck by taking a few measurements. Take a measurement from the center of your current gooseneck ball to the cab of the truck then add 5-1/2". Call this measurement A. Now measure from the center of your fifth wheel (kingpin) to the outermost edge. Call this measurement B. If A is grater than B then you will be able to make a 90 degree turn.
Even if it is less you may be able to make a 90 degree turn depending on your trailer design. Many have cutouts in the corners that allow for greater truing radius. Lastly the hitch will work well even if you cannot make a full 90 degree turn but you will need to be careful when making sharp turns and backing up. Typical driving on the road will not present turning radius problems.
Where do the safety chains attach on the truck? It looks like the base of the hitch will cover the 4 bolt holes in the factory prepped bed of our 2017 Sierra 3500 DRW.
If you want to attached the safety chains to the factory puck system you may use a hole saw to cut up to a 4" hole, you need to leave 1/2" of material between the hole and the edge of the frame material.
